Grechen OConnor Bio
I moved to the Olympia area almost 2 years ago. For the greater part of the first year I continued my membership at St. Matthew/San Mateo in Auburn. I was a member of the Vestry and felt obligated to complete my term there before transferring my membership. I was also active in the Hispanic Ministry at San Mateo and taught English as a second language. We had a great time in class—and sometimes I even taught the class in Spanish, helping to bridge the meaning of vocabulary and usage. I had found such a wonderful place in Auburn that I knew if I were to transfer my membership I would have to find the same sense of belonging at my next spiritual home.
Almost from the first time I came to St. Benedict I felt I had found my new spiritual home. I want to say it was March or so when I made my first visit here. And I’ve been here ever since. I have found a spot helping at the community dinners which has helped me grow in many ways. It would be an honor to serve on the Bishop’s Committee. I bring with me organizational skills and have 15 years’ experience in the field of emergency management. I am currently an emergency preparedness coordinator for a non-profit organization.
I love to work with my hands whenever possible—it may be knitting, crocheting, card making, or making jewelry in my creative moments, and when the weather’s good enough it’s golf, golf or did I mention golf?
